Trail Description
Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches features an on-campus, professionally designed trail system that connects to the network of paved paths through town. The soil is generally sandy and very loose in dry summer weather.
Be aware that portions of the trail are two-way while some loops are one-way singletrack.
The main parking area for this trail is at the northeast corner of Starr and University Dr at the Gayla Mize Garden, but this is not the only entry point. Another main trailhead rests on the east side of University Dr at College, and another at the University Apartments. Since the trail is on the university campus, be aware that some of the parking lots require permits. The lot at Starr and University does not require a permit.
Other entrances to the off-road trail can be found along the paved Lantana Creek Trail via paved SFA trails that intersect the natural surface trails. If you’d like to combine pavement and dirt to increase your total milage, the Lantana Creek Trail runs north and south through town for a total of 2.5 miles.
